Why it happens
Plaster, MDF and cement dust settles slowly and hides in tracks, sockets, radiator fins and joinery gaps. Every time a door closes or heating comes on, more of it lands.
What to do about it
Sequence matters more than effort on this one.
- Wait until every trade including snagging has genuinely finished
- Remove protection sheeting, tape and stickers first, before any wet work
- Work strictly top down: ceilings and light fittings, then walls, then joinery, then floors
- Vacuum with HEPA filtration rather than sweeping, which re-suspends the dust
- Do a second pass on tracks, sockets, hinges and radiator backs
- Finish glass and hard floors last, once nothing above them is outstanding
The mistake to avoid
Do not book the clean before snagging. A returning joiner or decorator undoes a full day's work in twenty minutes.
