Cleaning conservatories and uPVC

uPVC and conservatory glazing look like easy surfaces and are not. The wrong pressure lifts seals, and the wrong chemistry leaves plastic permanently dulled.

Cleaning conservatories and uPVC

Why it happens

Conservatory roofs collect organic film and algae because they are shallow, shaded in places and rarely rained clean. Frames pick up traffic film and oxidise where they face the weather.

What to do about it

Low pressure, right chemistry, from the top.

  • Clear roof debris and gutters first, since everything washes downward
  • Use low pressure on glazing bars and seals — never a concentrated nozzle
  • Choose uPVC-safe chemistry; abrasives and solvents dull the surface permanently
  • Clean frames, then glass, then the surrounding hard surfaces in that order
  • Rinse thoroughly so no residue dries on the glass
  • Check seals and trims while you are there — early problems are cheap to fix

The mistake to avoid

Do not run a pressure washer at full pressure along a glazing seal. Water forced past the seal ends up inside the unit and causes misting you cannot clean.

How we handle it

Years of dirt, moss and algae lift off with proper pressure washing. We use adjustable-pressure gear that cleans block paving, patio slabs, decking, render and stonework without damaging the surface.

  • Rotary surface cleaner on paving
  • Adjustable turbo nozzle on stone
  • Sodium hypochlorite on algae (rinsed)
  • Kiln-dried sand for re-jointing

Questions people ask

Can you reach a conservatory roof safely?

Yes, with pole-fed equipment from ground level in most cases, which avoids ladder work on fragile roofs.

Will you get uPVC back to white?

Cleaning removes film and algae. Where the plastic has genuinely oxidised, we will say so rather than promise a result cleaning cannot give.

Do you clean the gutters at the same time?

Yes, and it makes sense to do both in one visit since the debris routes through them.
